Associate Dean & Professor, Dr. Patriann Smith, hails from the beautiful island country of Saint Lucia and is an award-winning American literacy researcher and educator who creates innovative solutions geared towards justice for all.

  • ResearchPatriann Smith is a tenured associate professor at the University of South Florida, an AERA Emerging Scholar awardee (2015), an ILA Reading Hall of Fame Emerging Fellow (2013-2017), an LRA STAR Fellow (2017-2019), a USF World Global Excellence in Research awardee (2022). She is the author of numerous articles and recipient of numerous grants. She serves as a member of the Board of Directors of LRA (2020-2023) and as Co-PI of the USAID-funded $3.6 million RISE Caribbean grant (2021-2024). Her latest books: “Affirming Black Students’ Lives and Literacies: Bearing Witness” (2022) & “Black Immigrant Literacies: Intersections of Race, Language, and Culture in the Classroom” (2023).
